About this soundtrack:
Welcome to my first officially released soundtrack! In truth, even though this is my first soundtrack release, it isn’t the first game I've worked on, nor the first soundtrack I've actually completed*. However, the members at Deeep Games, along with the artist and myself, started and finished this game in a relatively short amount of time, so I was able to release the soundtrack before the other games that I'm working on.
Before beginning to write the music itself I had to decide what kind of feel I wanted the game to have. Since it’s a hunting game I wanted it to have an open country, outdoors, kind of bluegrass feel. But it’s also a tribute to the games of old, so I decided it would be appropriate to mix in some 8bit sounds as well. I decided on an arrangement of banjo, bass, whistling, drumkit, and 8bit sounds. I ended up using this exact instrumentation for all of the pieces in the game.
The nine short jingles I wrote all in one day. The developers then asked me to write a track that would loop in the background during gameplay. I wrote “The Great Outdoors” using the same arrangement as the jingles. For a game with so little music, I hoped that by keeping the arrangement the same for each piece I’d be able to create a musical identity for the game. Did I succeed?
By the way, to those of you who have played the game, I also created all of the sound effects for it!
*The first game that I worked on is called “Why is the Princess in a Magic Forest!?”. I started writing the soundtrack in the summer of 2013. As of March 1st, the game is still being developed. My soundtrack is done. Ready and waiting for the game to be released so I can share the music with everyone.
